0097 - HotDocs Quick-Edit Macro

Description:

A WordPerfect macro that allows you to browse to and open a HotDocs template or component file for editing.

• Explanation •

(download the macro)

This macro will let you browse for HotDocs templates (.wpt only) or component files and open them up for editing. It makes it unnecessary to go through the HotDocs Library to edit a template or component file.

The macro presents a dialog box where you can either type in the full path of the file you want to edit, or you can click the little button by the filename field to browse for a file to edit. The macro will only accept .wpt and .cmp files.

If you choose to "Edit" a .wpt file, the template is opened for editing in WordPerfect. If you choose to "Edit" a .cmp file, the component file is opened in the Component Manager.

There is also a "Print" option which will simply print a list of variables in the component file, regardless of whether you choose a .wpt or .cmp file. It does not print a list of variables actually contained in the template.

To add the macro to a button bar, right-click on the desired bar and choose "Edit." Choose the "Macros" tab, and click "Add Macro." Locate the macro and click "Select." A button will be added to your button bar. By default, it looks like a cassette tape. You can change the appearance of the button by right-clicking on the button and selecting "Customize." You can also change the button's location on the button bar by dragging it to a new position.

The technique for adding the macro to a drop-down menu is similar. Right-click on the menu bar and select "Settings" then "Edit." Choose the "Macros" tab, and click "Add Macro." Locate the macro and click "Select." A menu with the name of the macro will be added to your menu bar. You can change the menu item's location by dragging it to a new position.

You can also create a shortcut to the macro on your desktop (or in your Start menu) so that the macro can be run outside of WordPerfect.

NOTE: The macro may not run in versions of WordPerfect older than WP8.
